Week of December 6th-10th

5th Grade Reader’s Workshop

The readers of fifth grade will be making a generalization or drawing a conclusion from the text that they are reading. They will be able to support the generalization that they are making with specific details from the text. The readers are always encouraged to find evidence to support all of their thoughts.

6th Grade Reader’s Workshop

The readers of sixth grade will be able to identify the main idea of the text that they are reading. They will be able to support the main idea with specific details that happened in the text. As the readers are reading, it is always a good idea to identify the page number of the evidence so that they are able to go back in the text to support their ideas.

5th and 6th Grade Writer’s Workshop

This week, the writers will be given a rubric stating how their persuasive writing will be graded. The writers will be responsible for writing an introduction, two paragraphs with arguments, and a conclusion. As they are supporting their position with two different arguments, they will be encouraged to start sentences different ways using transitional words.
