Peek at the Week

Week of March 9th-13th

Math: Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic.

We will begin the week with interpreting remainders in an open response problem.  The fourth graders will also convert tons to pounds and pounds to ounces. Ask your fourth grader how many ounces are in a pound.  We will end the week practicing partial quotient division.

Reading: Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text.

For our second five weeks of third quarter, we will be reading real life mysteries.  Every fourth grader will read a collection of nonfiction events that people are still unsure about how they happened or ended.  Ask your fourth grader to tell you which real life mystery he or she is most intrigued about from their anthology.

Writing: Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.

This week, the fourth graders will be reading informational text about hot air balloons.  After they read the passage, they will respond to the prompt. They will also have a chance to grade writing samples.
