Peek at the Week

Week of March 2nd-6th

Writing: Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.

During the month of March, the fourth grader will read an informational text passage and respond to the prompt.  The first passage that the fourth grader will be reading is about sharks. They will use details and images to describe characteristics about sharks.  In addition to responding to the prompt, they will also critique and grade other student samples.

Reading: Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.

Since this is the final week of the mystery unit, the fourth graders will work with their guided reading group to create and perform a skit of the book.

Math: Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic.

During the month of March, the fourth graders will be dividing.  We will begin with using basic facts. From there, we will divide multiples of ten and hundred.  We will then practice division by finding the missing side of a rectangle given the area. The fourth graders will also begin dividing using the partial products method.  This concept will be introduced this week. Throughout the month, we will be practicing partial product division. If you want to teach your child the traditional method of long division, that is fine.  Division is a difficult concept to grasp. Please let me know if your fourth grader needs additional assistance.
