Room 207

Peek at the Week

Week of February 17th-21st

Math: Build fractions from unit fractions.

Our last two lessons of fractions will focus on subtracting mixed numbers and plotting mixed numbers on a line plot. The fourth graders will be measuring the size of their heads.  As a class, they will plot the data on a line plot. Ask your fourth grader to identify what a line plot looks like on their homework. The next part of Lesson 5 pertains to angles.  First, the fourth graders will be introduced to an angle. They will identify the rotation of an angle and know whether it is clockwise or counter clockwise. Please practice the difference between the two with your fourth grader at home.

Reading:Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

This week’s literary device is flashback.  The fourth graders will be explicitly taught words that signify a flashback.  Additionally, the fourth graders will learn that a flashback occured in the character’s life before the plot of the story. From the flashback, they will be able to make an inference of a character’s current emotions.  They will also identify the purpose of a flashback in the text.

Writing: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.

As the writer is writing his or her mystery final draft, every fourth grader will focus on beginning sentences in a variety of ways, using past tense verbs, and using words instead of said when writing dialogue.
