Peek at the Week

Week of November 4th-8th

Writing: Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.

During October, the fourth graders responded to a prompt after reading a passage.  This week, they will choose one of the three prompts to write as a final draft. They will be graded on responding to the prompt,  writing a luring lead, ending in an unforgettable way, using descriptive words, dialogue, and spelling.

Reading: Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.

The fourth grade readers will be summarizing text.  They know that a good summary includes the who, what, where, why, and when of the text written in approximately three-five sentences.

Math: Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic.

We will continue to use multiplication this week.  First, the fourth graders will convert units of time to smaller units of time.  Then, the students will use multiplication to solve word problems that use comparison.  Finally, we will end the week with classifying triangles.
