Peek at the Week

Week of March 18th-22nd

IAR Testing

The Fourth Graders will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  A note from CPS was sent home about this assessment last week. Because of the test, students will not have formal math lessons on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Therefore, math homework will only be assigned on Thursday.

Writing: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequence.

This week’s passage will be about a girl who found a pair of wacky shoes that would not come off her feet.  The fourth grade writers will have to rewrite the story imagining that they were the ones that found the pair of wacky shoes that would not come off their feet.  They will rewrite the narrative using details from the text. They will be graded on how they respond to the prompt, use appropriate paragraph breaks, begin sentences in a variety of ways, use dialogue to show how a character responds to a situation, use correct verb tense, and use correct conventions.

Reading: Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

The readers will continue to read their real life mysteries focusing on features of informational text.  As they are reading, they will use explicit text evidence to make an inference.

Math:Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted.

This Thursday in math, students will continue to practice division. We will focus on problems that have a remainder and determine how the remainder will be interpreted based on the number story.
