Peek at the Week

Week of November 19th-20th

Reading: Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text.

The readers will continue to find the main idea of the informational text that they are reading.  Please practice finding the main idea of the text with your fourth grader. Because of the short week, the students will not be assigned reading homework.

Writing: Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which related ideas are grouped to support the writer’s purpose.

This week the writers are being introduced to the topic that they will use for their final draft opinion papers. On Monday, we will read and discuss an article about the topic. On Tuesday, they will have the opportunity to organize and write their ideas in an outline so that they are prepared to write their final draft next week.

Math: Learn strategies to order fractions and place them accurately on number lines.

This week the fourth graders will be working on comparing fractions. On Monday, they will look at number stories with two fractions and will compare them using diagrams and their knowledge of fraction sizes. On Tuesday, the fourth graders will complete a group activity with their tables where they work to order multiple fractions from least to greatest.
