Peek at the Week

Week of November 13th-16th

Report Card Pick Up

On Wednesday, there is no school because of report card pick up.  If you have not signed up for a time, please do so.

Reading: Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text.

The readers will focus on identifying the main idea of the biographies they are reading.  In their main idea, they should identify who the biography is about and what they did. Often times, readers confuse detail and main idea.  Please help your fourth grader to differentiate between the two at home. We will be practicing this in guided reading groups.

Writing: Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which related ideas are grouped to support the writer’s purpose.

This week we are continuing our work on opinion writing. We will work on giving supporting evidence for our reasons. We will also add an introduction and conclusion to our rough drafts.

Math: Use mathematical models to compare fractions with different numerators and denominators and justify their reasoning.

This week in math, students will be given a story problem to explore and work on with their table groups on Tuesday. Then on Thursday, we will review the worksheet as a class, using some of our classmates work to analyze how to solve the problem along with different ways to solve the problem. The students will then revise their work.
