Room 207

Peek at the Week

Week of March 19th-23rd

PARCC

The fourth graders will be taking the PARCC Test this week.  They will take Units 1 and 2 of the language arts test on Monday, Unit 3 of the language arts test on Tuesday, and the four math units on Wednesday and Thursday.  Because of the PARCC test, we will not have formal writing instruction or switch for science or social studies this week. Room 207 will be invited to the Fourth Grade movie afternoon on Friday if they receive 1,000 DOJO points as a class.  Only students with positive DOJO points will be invited to the movie and popcorn party.

Reading: Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

The students will continue to read their real life mysteries.  As they are reading, they will work as detectives to make an inference of what they think was the cause of the mystery that he or she is reading.  The second book report of the quarter, will be more of a research assignment. Every fourth grader will identify a real life mystery that they are interested in learning more about.  They will use the Internet or a book, not read in school, to learn more about the mystery. The students will have received the research form on Monday. The students had time to begin their initial inquiry and will be responsible for researching more about their real life mystery at home over the next few weeks.  The real life mystery research forms will be due on Thursday, April 5th. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this assignment.

Math: Build fractions from unit fractions.  Solve problems involving measurement and conversion of measurements.

On Tuesday, students will revisit fractions.  They will solve number stories by adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with like denominators.  On Friday, fourth graders will read Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi to celebrate Pi Day from last week.  Students will complete activities that involve finding the circumference of various sized circles.  The week back from spring break, fourth graders will finish off Unit 6 and then take the Unit 6 Assessment (Tuesday) and Cumulative Assessment (Wednesday).
