Report Card Pick-Up
Wednesday, April 19, 2017 is a non attendance day for students because of Report Card Pick-Up. Every parent is invited for a ten minute conference to discuss your child’s progress in fourth grade. Conferences will be scheduled from 12-6. Please complete and return the bottom portion of this note identifying your preferred conference time. Conferences will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Your fourth grader is encouraged to attend the conference to identify strengths and goals.
Math: Solve problems involving measurement and conversion of measurements.
We will end the math unit solving word problems. On Monday, the students will use addition and subtraction to solve word problems with fractions and mixed numbers. Tuesday’s word problems will entail solving problems multiplying a whole number by a fraction. Because Thursday is the last day of the quarter, the students will be assessed on both Wednesday and Thursday. The Unit 6 Test will take place on Wednesday and the Cumulative Test will be given on Thursday. Concepts assessed on the Unit 6 Test include extended division facts, dividing a two digit dividend by a one digit divisor, division word problems, interpreting remainders, angle measure, types of angles, converting pounds to ounces, fraction word problems, area and perimeter. Concepts assessed on Thursday’s Cumulative Test include multiplication, fraction, and conversion word problems, factors, identification of prime and composite numbers, area and perimeter, identifying equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions, comparing decimals, converting measurements, angle measurements, place value, adding and subtracting numbers in the ten thousands place, symmetry, and plotting data on a line plot. Please let me know if would like me to practice any particular math skill with your fourth grader.
Reading: Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
This week the fourth grader will edit and revise the information they collected about their real life mystery, and use their rubric to continue to create their mystery poster. After the fourth grader has revised their information, they will use their rubric to assist them in finalizing their poster, to ensure they have all of the required information included on their mystery poster.
Writing: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
As we continue our unit on poetry, the fourth graders will learn how to use sensory imagery in their poetry writing. In addition, the fourth graders will learn how to use different poetic devices to infuse their poems with music.
