Peek at the Week

Week of April 4th-8th

 

Science

We will continue to discuss the significance of joints in the body.  Please ask your fourth grader to identify the hinge, ball-and-socket, and gliding joints in the body.

 

Math

Even though there were no formal math lessons taught last week, the students were able to practice angle measure and division.  As a result, we will take the Unit 6 test on Monday for the final math grade of the third quarter.   Once again there will be no formal math homework this week.

 

Social Studies: Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences in the text.

As the students are reading about the Pacific and Mountain states, they will be making generalizations about the economy and the tourism of this region.

 

 

 

Reading: Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the texts says explicitly and when drawing inferences in the text.

While the students are making inferences, they will be using explicit text evidence to support their inferences.  This week, they will be introduced to Achieve3000.  This is a web based reading program that helps to track and monitor student growth in reading.  Every student will receive their log in and password.  Parents can check work and progress at home.  This will serve as the assessment portion of the grade for the fourth quarter.

 

Writing: Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings.

With the beginning of April, comes the beginning of poetry month.  The students will be introduced to poetry as an opportunity to use imagery to express an emotional x-ray.  The students will begin the poetry unit by “taking an x-ray of their emotions.”  They will also identify that while they were writing their narratives they were creating a video but a poem is more of a picture.  We will also write ode and persona poems (writing in the perspective as an object).
