5th Grade Reader’s Workshop

From reading a short mystery story, the readers will be able to draw a conclusion from the text evidence presented.

 

6th Grade Reader’s Workshop

The students will be able to identify author’s purpose in the text that they are reading.

 

5th and 6th Grade Writer’s Workshop

The writers will be introduced to newspaper article writing. Every writer will pick an event that happened at Ray to write about for a newspaper article. In the article, they will identify the who, what, why, where, and when of the event. For homework, they will collect quotes to be put in the article.

5th Grade Reader’s Workshop

As the fifth graders are reading about fossils and other prehistoric animals, they will be identifying fact and opinion. In addition to differentiating between fact and opinion, they will also write an opinion letter.

 

6th Grade Reader’s Workshop

From reading details about the characters in the text, the students will make inferences.

 

5th and 6th Writer’s Workshop

Research essays will be due on Friday, May 27th. Throughout the week, the students will be reviewing editing strategies such as starting sentences in different ways and rereading writing to avoid errors.

Reader’s Workshop

Both the fifth and sixth graders will be identifying facts from the text along with their background knowledge to draw a conclusion. Throughout the week, they will be working on their reader’s and writer’s workshop work.

 

Writer’s Workshop

The students will receive the rubric for their research essay. For homework this week, they will complete an outline that previews their research essay. All outlines will be due on Friday. Research essays will be due on Friday, May 27th.

5th Grade Reader’s Workshop

As the students are reading informational text, they will be identifying features that help them to comprehend the story.

 

6th Grade Reader’s Workshop

As the students are reading informational text, they will outline the facts identifying the main ideas and supporting details of each section.

 

5th and 6th Grade Writer’s Workshop

This week for homework the students should be researching a person who caused scientific or social change. They all received the sheet to complete at home. That same sheet can also be found on my blog. This research will help the students to complete their writing work in class next week. In writer’s workshop this week, we will be writing thesis statements that will be a part of the introductions. They will also be outlining their research papers.
